Last Weekends Briscoe Dig!
Here are the photos and highlights from last weekends dig!
But First! In the heat of the day I became a little delirious and took a break from the Backhoe and the 100 degree day (on the Backhoe it was much hotter from the motor etc.)
I got to looking at all of our diggers and noticed that everyone had their own way of staying cool as possible in the Central Texas heat. Everyone had a hat or some kind of "device" on their head trying to beat the heat. I came up with an idea that I need all your help on! I told all of the diggers that I was amazed at the different hats everyone wore and I was going to photograph each and everyone of them and all of you VOTE on who had the neatest looking hat or portable shade! Look at all of them and then go to the guest book I have provided here and please vote on your favorite. The winner will get an artifact of some kind sent to them from the association! So, please help us out and vote! I will Email the results next week to all you so we can see who had the COOLEST hat! Just having fun folks! That is what this is all about! Now for the photos!
#1. Jerry Maxwell shows off his cool Yankee hat and artifacts! (Close ups of these later).
#2. Kent Ashenfelter admires a find while showing off his "cool" hat!
#3. Randy Miller, well, there are no words for this photo! HAHA It says it all!
#4. John Weideman has that "Where are all the points!?"look while modeling his guerrilla warfare type hat!
#5 Donna Brackin put the female touch to the hat contest with her cute little purple cap.
#6 Pat Even wore her Indian cap! Looks like it worked, she is looking a chopper she just found!
#7. Ed Roseman used the cap and bandana to stay cool!
#8. Of course, Sam Wolff always has a cool idea! Kinda hard to see those arrowheads through that rag though, isn't it Sam?
#8. Brian Armstrong admires a beauty he just found while wearing the TWO bill cap!
#9. Kathy Wolff is all smiles looking at the lime green reflection of her personal shade device as it glows off the artifact that she just picked up!
#10 David Sollock put the back half of a Langtry on his cap as he appears to pray to the artifact Gods for another find!
#11 Jerry Vincent was standing in a fire ant bed he just realized as I took this photo of him holding his finds! HA
#12 Mike Wolff had it all figured out. Put the rag on the head and SIT in the shade! LOL
Of course you can't vote for me for two reasons, One , I already own the artifact I am giving away and two, I will certainly wear a much larger hat the next time! Not much shade there! I am holding nice, over 3 inch Nolan I found but the tip had been snapped.
OK! You've seen the hats (artifacts) so help us out and vote. Just sign in on the guest book and tell me who you think has the coolest looking headgear! Thanks!
PS. Did you notice the smiles on our diggers, come have fun with us!!!!!
Now more artifacts from the dig!
Brian Armstrong holds his days finds.
It was a tough day for John Weideman! But he did not get skunked!
Mike Wolff's take.
Sam Wolff shows off two of the better pieces he found!
Here are two artifacts that Jerry Vincent found. A possible Bulverde and a Nolan.
Donna Brackin found these two ancient knife forms. Also, she found the ONLY bird point ever found at this site! What an eye!
Jerry Vincent holds his sweet 6000 year old Nolan that came out of the deep yellow dirt!
Wayne Gulley and Jerry Vincent wave at me as the other diggers are searching in the morning sun for artifacts!
The Gower (6000 BC) on the right was found by Jerry Maxwell. It had alternating right had bevels on the blade indicating it had been used as an ancient knife form. The artifact on the left has definitely been in the ground for many many years.
Kent Ashenfelter found this nice root beer Nolan! Check out the next photo to see its translucency!
Unfortunately, this photo was not in focus! The material of this artifact was unbelievable! It was nearly clear and had some really pretty darker inclusions! Brian Armstrong was the finder!
So that was it folks. We all had great time. Everyone survived the heat. About three o'clock I went to the creek and rolled around in 6 inches of moss and what water was there. A definite refresher.
A side note. The spring that was there has never been known to go dry. It was dry that weekend.
Have a great upcoming weekend members, I am working on new dig dates at San Angelo, and hope to soon report a new site there, much closer to town! You will be the first to know!
If you got the dig cards requesting the $10 and you are getting this then you of course do not have to send in the card unless you just want a hard copy mailed to you. This newsletter is free with your membership and here you will be notified of the dig news first anyway!
Don't forget to vote on your favorite hat!!!
Happy Hunting,
Bob Mc Williams
