Sept. 9-10-11
We had three days of digging this weekend with an average of 4 people per day. Sunday the rain came but we just shut down early for lunch and let the shower of about 1 inch finish. I took some sifted dry throw dirt, dried up the site and we were back in business! As long as it does not rain 3 or 4 inches we can usually get back to digging. THE MORAL OF THIS STORY IS: If there are thunderstorms predicted don't let that influence your decision to dig or not. Over 90% of the time we get our dig in. Now if it comes a down pour or rains for days, that is a different story.
You will not see too many of these. A Langtry drill.
Fairland. Not the droopy ears. That is the difference between an Ensor and Fairland.
A this site we keep finding points with pitch on them. A rare find in other mounds but common here for some reason.
Pitch is the glue that the Indians used to haft the point on to the shaft. It was usually made from tar. This could have been brought in from the tar balls on the ocean or could have been found at natural oil seeps that they found around the country side. Due to drilling for oil there are very few today.
Now that's a bird point drill!
A HUGE LaJita.
If you like bird points this is the place to come!
A fine Bell "variant" point. Unfortunately it had an ear missing but it still is an awesome 6000-8000 year
old find!
A small but well worked bone awl.
Another sugar quartz find. Type, unknown.
A knee knocker Marshall!
Don't let this style of Perd - "bow legged' in collected terms - get you confused with the older Gower type.
Pink and with pretty swirls.
Paper thin and translucent Lerma! On the right check out the notch on the ear. Rare indeed.
A fine unknown type of knife.
Another unknown variety of knife form.
A Friday blade and be sure and notice the side notches on the piece below.
A crying shame Montell!
It has taken several years but I have just about finished training "Old Betsy II" (our backhoe) to find arrowheads! HAHA
John HIgginbotham noticed a point in the bucket as I dumped a load on his screen. It had just rained and the mud was sticky. This nice Montell stayed in the bucket as I dumped it!
Another SUPER Ensor from this site!
A chalcedony Matamoras point! The site gives up another clear one!
A dang near 5 inch Perd!
On the way home I photographed this beautiful rainbow. A fitting end to a successful 3 day hunt!
