Nov 7th - TEST DIG
Take the POLL NOW! To your left!
We found 11 of these mostly Marcos points out of one test hole!
One of several "Victoria", early archaic types found this weekend. Note the parallel flaking.
These straight backed small blades are probably Pandora's. We are close to where the point type
was named.
A good side by side of how the Marcos point can differ. Both Marcos points.
Fairland.
These two Covington blades came out of the same test hole together.
Marco left. Pandora blade on right. Flat base, expanding or convex blade edges. Not a Friday blade.
Years ago I had a man called ATLATL Bob which has done lots of atlatl studies at the Smithsonian agree
with me that the enlongated 'river' stones that we find in our mounds could very well be atlatl weights. They
are the correct weight. Because Texas does not have carvable stone like the northern states they simply
could have used pitch and sinew to attach these to their atlatls. Please show me all stones such as this
that you find at this site. If we could find one with pitch traces on the stone it would help verify my beliefs.
I have been telling my diggers that one day we would find a two inch Perdiz in this midden (by the creek).
Here is one we found on the test dig that is broken and still nearly two inches long! WOW
Round base Lerma and Early Triangular.
A super fine Victoria.
Here is Corner Tang Ed's four piece collection that he has found at the Cibolo site so far! 3 came from the creek site and now this last one came from the field site!
In order as they were found by Ed. The first one appears to have been 'bitten' by the backhoe!
Way to go Ed.
