Last dig day of 2005! 12/30
Ed Ferris found this nice Harahey knife with a drill tip + the birdies!
Sugar Quartz Drill!
My Father-in-law Philip Silverstein (Columbia South Carolina) visited Terri (Pony Woman) and I over the New Years. He came out and did a screen with us. Like Mean Gene Black said, "if it is his first time he will have beginners
luck"! Sure enough he found a nice 6-8000 year old Early Triangular!
and then... Wade Morris pulled out his Christmas gift from the Arrowhead Gods!
A 4 1/4" Chalcedony (not pure, it had inclusions) Corner Tang!
Steve Johnson found this stemmed knife, the important thing about this piece was that it had a large
amount of pitch on the stem! *REMINDER - words like pitch, quartzite, basal grinding etc. can be found
on your members only web page. Look under Glossary of Archeological terms. The web site pass word
and site address is usually given on the TAAA Electronic Newsletter.
Ed found this 10,000 year old Golondrina in the field site. This piece shows just how pretty a piece that
the ancients long ago had the ability to make. Although the photos cannot show all the workmanship of
this awesome piece maybe you can make out some of the ribbon flaking, the near perfect symmetry, super
quality of the flint and of course the piece had basal grinding! Again refer to the Glossary of Archeological terms. The web site pass word and site address is usually given on the TAAA Electronic Newsletter.
This is part of a sandstone pipe that was found by Wade Morris. Good eye! There are many things of
archeological importance that are to be found in the middens besides arrowheads. Be on the watch!
If you do not know ask me. If you do not want them someone else will!
Below is the second piece of pipe that we found (Steve Johnson). This piece is archeologically important
because it shows how the pipe was being made. It is being drilled from both ends. Eventually it split down
the center before it was finished.
