Bob,
Did you get the June 24 & 25 photos from Mona? (Check out that weeks photos on this web page - Bob) She and Kurt (?) and I all
had a great last day on Tuesday which made it really hard to leave. I
actually found more during the 6 hours I dug on Tuesday than all the
previous 10-12 hour digging days. (diggers luck) If you see the photos I
pulled a complete Kinney (almost identical to the one on the example
authentification certificate) from the wall and then found a couple of La
Jita's, a slightly damaged Perdiz that is nearly transparent, a wide
Marcos(?) blade with a missing tip, a needle sharp point with a bifurcated
base (one base tip missing), a base tang base with an extra notch (tool
reuse), and some I have not identified. One in particular (I think Zachery
posed with it) I found at the very bottom of the hole in the 4th layer of
chips has the best example of basal grinding I have in my possession. It is
about 2 ½ inches long and is also ground smooth on the edges from the base
to about halfway up the side. The sharpened end is beveled from
resharpening and has needle sharp serrations. There is also one flake from
side to side on either size that looks like a transverse oblique flake to
me. I'm thinking Meserve but could it possibly be Plainview? I am not yet
familiar enough with Paleo to know.
I also found the grooved stone we talked about that I will take to the next
dig for you to identify. Over the 4 days of digging I have 15 good
condition artifacts (the 3 inch Perd drill, Guadalupe Biface, a La Jita, the
Kinney, and the mysterious possible Paleo) are all in perfect or near
perfect condition) and another 30+ tips, fragments, bases and scrapers.
I would like to go down for one or two more days before the Montell site is
closed if I can work it out. Let me know if the other mound is opened up and
I will probably be there.
Thank you,
John Hughes

Bob,
We had a wonderful two day trip to the site. The first day my lip was dragging
a little at the end of the evening. Kirk had found that Marcos and all I found
was a broken Andice. John had found a nice point that evening that I
photographed.
On Tuesday....Bob....it was ALMOST like popcorn! John did really well all day,
pulling good points every now and then in the same spot he dug on Monday.
I decided to dig a little deeper around the tree you and I talked about. Thats
where the Andice came from. I found nothing there on Tues. So, I decided to
turn around and dig behind me and it was like Pedernales heaven! There were
pieces falling out of my throw dirt. I called Kirk over and we dug it out
deeper. I found the best point I have ever found. A pink and brown Pedernales.
3 3/4" long. BEAUTIFUL! Kirk also pulled out several points, and what we
believe to be a whole Plainview. Anyway, broken and whole we ended
up with about 18 pieces that day and John probably had 10 or 12. It was a good
day.
I would like to know what the plans are for July 4th, backhoe, etc. if any. We
would like to try and come back then. Also, the guys name who restores, for
that point we talked about. Hope everything went well on the house deal. Give
me a call when you get a chance. Take care.

Hi Bob,
Just a note to let you know how much Mike & I enjoyed our day this past Sunday! . . . and to let you know we will be back in the dirt & ashes with you guys. The entire group was friendly & made us feel right at home.
Next time we hear you give advice like go jump in the river & cool off during midday, boy will we listen to you. Look forward to your publishing all those fantastic findsso I can show my wife what "others" found.
Also look forward to receiving our copies of TX Cache soon.
See you in a couple of weeks
Dick Mott
Bob,
I just wanted to take a minute and thank you for the
hospitality this weekend at the dig. We had a great
time and look forward to doing it again soon. This was
our first dig but it sure wont be the last. Ive got a
couple of more friends who will become TAAA members in
the near future and probably will come with me to dig
soon. Everyone out there was friendly and courteous to
us and didnt mind giving advice to first timers and I
sure appreciate that.
Thanks also for all your hard
work in finding such a good place. I know its not easy
to come up with a place like that. Talk to you soon.
